Area Law Enforcement
Around 50 automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.
Officers report they were contacted late on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.
The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.
Officers then located numerous other vandalized automobiles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement say initial examinations indicate the liquid was likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no clue as to where it came from; investigators are presently not aware of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they added.
Local authorities said they were trying "to solve the case" and have requested to the residents for information.
An important political figure stated the vandalism left him speechless and required to be resolved rapidly.
"This incident affects the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on social media, referring to the killing of nine people by a shooter aiming at people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
