District Attorney Discloses Startling Details in Conservative Activist Assassination
In what was described as “a US disaster,” prosecutors laid out an alarming narrative of the alleged murder of rightwing figure Charlie Kirk.
A Premeditated Assault
According to the district attorney’s office, Tyler Robinson grew driven by animosity for Kirk and his political views. Officials allege Robinson orchestrated the attack in just over a week after learning Kirk would be speaking at Utah Valley University.
Text Messages Uncover Admission
Prosecutors say Robinson sent his housemate texts confessing to the murder. In one conversation, Robinson allegedly wrote, “I had the chance to take out Charlie Kirk and I’m going to take it.”
“Delete this exchange,” the suspect reportedly texted in one communication.
Firearm Details
Authorities believe a bolt-action rifle owned by Robinson’s grandparent was used in the shooting. The weapon was later found in a nearby area concealed in a towel.
Multiple bullets were recovered with the weapon, every one engraved with inflammatory messages.
Ideological Reasons
Based on testimony from Robinson’s parent, the suspect had over the past year grown more political and started leaning toward progressive views, supporting LGBTQ+ rights.
The accused had also started dating his housemate, a biological male who was undergoing a gender transition, which allegedly led to tension within his family.
Arrest and Charges
The suspect was taken into custody on September 12 and charged with first-degree murder. The district attorney announced they will pursue the capital punishment.
Law enforcement indicate Robinson’s own parent identified him from media images of the suspect and contacted investigators.
Court Proceedings
The suspect had an first court appearance on Tuesday, with a preliminary proceeding scheduled for September 29.
Prosecutors emphasized that the information presented are only allegations at this stage and acknowledged the grief of Kirk’s family.
“As with any homicide, the senseless taking of Charlie Kirk’s life has shattered the lives of those he loved,” said the prosecutor.
